Our global macro research is led by economist Christophe Barraud, PhD, ranked by Bloomberg as “Best forecaster of US (2012-2020), Eurozone (2015-2019) and the Chinese Economy (2017-2020).” He also won the Forecaster of the Year contest organized by MarketWatch in 2020. With an extended social media, media and public presence, he has been ranked among the most influential economists of the world by Richtopia and Focus Economics.

Through rigorous global macro-economic analysis, content is designed to generate both trading strategies and ideas to help clients make informed decisions and providing governments with an accurate view on the economics front. 

In addition to traditional materials (daily morning meeting, weekly data preview, quarterly outlook, conference calls, etc.), the department offers a Bloomberg chat fed in live with the main macro news likely to have an impact on the financial markets. The team also comments on the release of key economic indicators and main central bank meetings (ECB, Fed, etc.). Clients are able to discuss with the team at any moment.

Technical Analysis

For a second year in a row, the firm was awarded “The Best Institutional Brokerage for Equity Research” by The Technical Analyst.

Technical Analysis is the art of recognising repetitive shapes and patterns within a data series represented by charts. It is the understanding that these patterns are created by price changes which are in turn created by the market participants. The pattern created by the market participants repeats themselves because human nature is constant.

Our technical research draws recommendations based on thorough analysis of technical tools such as Relative Strength Index (RSI), Volumes, Simple Moving Average (SMA), Price patterns, Candlestick patterns, retracement levels, Trends etc. The elaborate process aims to reduce systemic risk, designing balanced exposure, generating absolute return strategies on cross assets, sectors, single stocks, pairs trading, etc

Our technical analysis reports are easy to comprehend with actionable insights covering major asset classes, taking cues from major global news and/ or events impacting market sentiments and analysing benchmark indices relatively.

Our special situation team’s market timing expertise is highlighted through our top/down approach combined with a bottom/up, drive the sector allocation model. Regular publications (weekly/daily) inform and update about specific formations.

We provide our clients with two primary types of research products: Market Watch and Special Situations. 

The aim of Market Watch is to provide market mover information and trade ideas, including daily morning news, market monitoring, press at a glance, broker note summary, earning result preview, trading ideas, US and EU macro research. The aim of Special Situations is to provide special situation trade ideas and news flow, including daily news, risk arbitrage, share class, right issue, stub trading, Dutch auction and other special situations.

The Market Securities’ Cross Asset Team is a unique group of specialists focusing on emerging market fixed income strategies that derive investment insights from cross asset inputs.

Our team combines nearly 20 years of average global investment experience covering both buy and sell side, with the core team having worked together for 15 years.

Over the years, the team has built a strong network of individuals and institutions to gain access to gain information and investment insights.

The coverage includes hard currency EM debt, money market, repos, FX and $/£/€ rates and are active during Asian, European and US trading hours. The desk operates through a dual ‘low touch and high touch ’ approach tailored to the needs of specific demands and the nature of covered products. We complement our approach by providing on the execution side, a single point of access across the EMD market spectrum.
